The official first day of school for the 2024–2025 school year in Florida is Monday, August 12, 2024, 🗓 for most school districts, including Duval County.

However, some counties have different start dates.

Florida state law prohibits schools from starting before August 10, but districts are allowed to choose their start date.

The back-to-school sale ads, supply donation drives, and tax-free back-to-school shopping days are indicative that a new school year starts across Northeast Florida in less than a week.

Consumers can purchase qualifying back-to-school supplies exempt from tax during the 2024 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday! This includes laptops and tablets.

Passed by the Florida Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis, the sales tax holiday begins 🗓 Monday, July 29, and extends through Sunday, August 11.

While there’s still a bit more time to hit the beach 🏖 or squeeze in some vacation days, and tax-free school supplies shopping, 💸 keeping on schedule is key to starting the new school year on the right foot. 👍

In Duval County, the general rule is that most elementary school classes start at 8:30 AM, middle schools at 9:30 AM, and high schools at 7:15 AM.

Because dozens of Duval schools have different start times, the school district has a designated webpage, https://dcps.duvalschools.org/belltimes, so you can verify the start times for specific schools.
